Florida A&M University's Facilities, Planning, Construction and Safety/Plant Operations and Maintenance Department (Grounds Shop) is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Senior Groundskeeper vacancy.
Responsibilities
Supervise subordinates engaged in grounds keeping maintenance and landscaping renovations to include the following activities: Provide on-the-job training in landscaping/landscaping techniques; Provide daily work assignments for members of the work unit; Inspect work performed by subordinates, counsel as necessary and initiate corrective action when necessary; Approve/disapprove requests for leave and certify time worked for subordinates; Evaluate employees’ performance and prepare Employee Performance Evaluation forms; Inform subordinates of all relevant University Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures and provides access to all related documents Assess and documents subordinates’ ability to comply with all relevant University Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures; Employ measures of accountability for compliance with University Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures; Conduct and document performance evaluations in a timely manner for each subordinate, in accordance with University Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures.
Perform the following general landscaping maintenance tasks around buildings and campus areas; Watering of Plant Materials: trees, shrubs, ground covers, and annual flowers; Trimming, mowing, edging, weed eating, raking, and removing debris; Installation of small landscape renovation projects; and, perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor or higher authority.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of the nineth grade and two years of team lead experience.
Recommended Competencies
Knowledge of landscape design principles;
Knowledge of methods used in the growth of grass, shrubs and trees;
Ability to identify plant diseases, insects and take corrective actions;
Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques;
Ability to prioritize workload;
Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures;
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions;
Ability to be tactful and work independently;
Ability to bend, kneel and lift a minimum of 25 pounds;
Ability to stand for a minimum of two (2) hours without a break;
Ability to work outside in North Florida temperature extremes; and,
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Anticipated Salary Range
The salary for this position is $33,066 annually.
Licenses and Certifications
Must maintain a valid Driver's License.

This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
Conditions of Employment
Successful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks and verification of education. An official college transcript, a high school diploma, or other educational documents must be submitted, where applicable, at the time of employment.
