Florida A&M University's Facilities, Planning, Construction and Safety/Building Maintenance/Housing Department is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Maintenance Specialist vacancy.
Responsibilities
Repair damaged steam and hot water lines by replacing pipes, fittings and valves above and underground as needed; Installs and repairs valves, faucets, traps, sinks, wash bowls, sanitary fixtures, etc; Maintains faucets, wash bowls and piping systems by opening clogged drains; and replaces washers on leaky faucets, etc.
Install and repair condensate pumps, hot water pumps, condenser pumps, chemical pumps, sump pumps, steam traps, steam valves, reducing valves, strainers; Replaces insulation; Performs preventive maintenance (P.M.) on all equipment; Repair damaged steam and hot water lines by replacing pipes, fittings and valves above and underground as needed; Install, repair or replace various incandescent, high intensity discharge and fluorescent fixtures; Replace ballast, light switches, receptacles, circuit breakers, fuses and other electrical components; Repair windows, walls, ceilings, stairs, furniture, and floors which includes basic masonry, tile work, wood work, caulking, painting, and hanging doors.
All university issued property – including uniforms, safety shoes, electronic devices, cell phones, tools, and vehicles – must be used properly and maintained in good working order; Respond to all written or verbal directions and work orders assigned through AIMS and Go-Mobile.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency and five years of related experience; or trade or vocational school graduate and five years of working experience in carpentry, locksmith, painting, life safety, electrical, plumbing and general building systems and service equipment installation, maintenance and repair.
Recommended Competencies
Knowledge of the procedures and methods for installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing & heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) fixtures and accessories, and electrical components and systems;
Knowledge of the procedures and methods of operating mechanical systems and equipment maintenance;
Knowledge of safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work;
Ability to perform a variety of skilled trades/functions;
Skill in using specialized tools and equipment relating to maintenance and repair work;
Ability to read blue prints and schematic drawings;
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and,
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Anticipated Salary Range
The salary range is between $35,000 to $38,000 commensurate with relevant experience.
Licenses and Certifications
Must maintain a valid Driver's License.

This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
