Florida A&M University's Center for Academic Advising is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Coordinator, Academic Programs (Learning Specialist) vacancy.

Responsibilities

This position assists academically at-risk student-athletes; The incumbent develops, manages, implements, and monitors strategic study programs, including mentoring and tutoring sessions for student-athletes, assess the needs of at-risk student-athletes, and develops strategic study plans; Develop and implement programs and services designed to meet the needs of academically at-risk student-athletes; and develop and implement academic support plans for under-prepared and learning-challenged student-athletes as well as developing and implementing programmatic and training initiatives for the tutorial program.

Serve as liaison between the academic coaches, academic support staff, and administrators to enhance the educational success of student-athletes; Identify learning needs of students-athletes and develop individualized support programs and services; Develop and provide a variety of teaching activities, including diagnostic needs assessments, skills development, decision making, time management, etc.; Coordinate mentoring programs and tutoring sessions for student-athletes and assists in monitoring supervised study table programs designed to develop beneficial study skills; and instruct learning-disabled student-athletes on the use of a variety of assistive technology.

Supervise and provide training to tutors and mentors; Maintain confidential records and other documentation; Stay abreast of and assures adherence to NCAA, SWAC, and University rules and regulations regarding position; May be required to travel and work outside regular business hours (evenings, weekends, and some holidays); Ensure all assigned tasks; Comply with the department, University, SWAC Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations; and perform similar or related duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of related experience; or a master's degree in appropriate area of specialization.

Recommended Competencies

Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of career counseling and development;

Knowledge of academic resources available to students;

Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations;

Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously;

Develops and implements programs and services designed to meet the needs of academically at-risk student-athletes;

Coordinates and participates in assigned unique and recurring projects and programs, including planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of tutorial programs; and,

Determines the curriculum for tutorial trainings in compliance with the Athletic Department’s Compliance Office and NCAA.

Anticipated Salary Range

From $50,520

Pay Plan

This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks and verification of education.
