Position Vacancy Announcement

The Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC) at Florida A&M University is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated professional for the Coordinator, Career Development Services (Career Pathways Coach) position.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will report to the Assistant Director of Career Coaching. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting student career development and providing coaching on career exploration, experiential learning planning and application processes, career readiness, and professional growth; Provide one-on-one and group career coaching to students across all majors and academic disciplines; Guide students in developing job/internship search strategies, writing résumés and cover letters, preparing for interviews, and building professional networks; Administer and interpret career assessments to assist students in exploring their skills, interests, and career fit; and develop personalized career action plans for students to ensure sustained career progress.

Contribute to the creation of student-facing resources and communications to scale career support; Provide continued career coaching support for post-graduation for alumni to help with job searches, career transitions, and professional development; Assess the effectiveness of career coaching services by gathering feedback from students and making improvements to strategies based on data; Supervise one or two Career Peers, providing direction and mentoring in their role as peer advisors; Coordinate training for Career Peers to support peer-led career conversations and initiatives; Ensure Career Peers are equipped to assist students with career-related tasks such as résumé writing, mock interviews, and networking strategies; and lead strategic projects related to career development initiatives that enhance student engagement and outcomes.

Organize and facilitate peer networking and career development events to support student engagement; Work closely with faculty and staff to design career conversations and initiatives that prepare students for career opportunities; Engage with employers to bring relevant career resources and job/internship opportunities to students; Support the planning and execution of career-related events such as career fairs, employer panels, and networking opportunities; Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities, including workshops, conferences, and networking events; Stay informed on trends in career education, workforce development, and student engagement; and contribute to team knowledge-sharing and support training initiatives within the CPDC.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of related experience; or master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization.

Recommended Competencies

Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of career counseling and development;

Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills;

Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;

Ability to utilize problem solving skills;

Ability to represent the University in appointed area as required; and

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

A master’s degree in counseling, higher education administration, student affairs, or a related field;

A minimum of 1–3 years of experience in career services, student development, or related areas;

Familiarity with career development theories, job search strategies, and experiential learning opportunities;

Experience advising, coaching, or mentoring students or professionals;

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;

Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment;

Knowledge of workforce trends, employer needs, and career readiness frameworks; and

Experience supervising student staff or leading student programs.

Pay Plan

This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks and verification of education.
