Florida A&M University's Challenger Learning Center is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Audio-Visual Specialist vacancy.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary connection between Facilities Maintenance at FAMU/FSU and the CLC; Provides support for special projects and events as directed by the Director, acting as the central point of contact for placing service orders for the building, and overseeing building maintenance and repair coordination; Responsible for ensuring the continuous maintenance and operational functionality of all building equipment; and serves as a backup to the Administrative team in managing the weekly card swipe schedule for the building and maintaining and updating the staff security access database and permissions.
Assist with the proper disposal of any unused or malfunctioning inventory and equipment in adherence to University policies and procedures; Conduct routine walkthroughs of the building on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis to confirm that everything complies with building codes and is operationally sound; Submit work orders as necessary, which may occur outside standard business hours; Oversee the quality and timeliness of work performed by third-party contractors; Guarantee that the structure adheres to safety and security regulations and requirements; Perform routine property assessments to detect maintenance requirements and potential safety risks; Record the results of these inspections and initiate appropriate measures to resolve any identified issues; Implement and maintain security measures, including access control, surveillance, and emergency protocols; Address safety concerns and conduct regular safety inspections; Stay informed about local, state, and federal regulations related to property management; and ensure the property complies with all relevant laws and regulations.
Assist with special projects, events, and support activities as requested by the Director; Manage the operation and upkeep of the IMAX and Planetarium Theatre. This includes loading, removing, and scheduling movies, shows, trailers, pre-show slides, and audio files while ensuring precise timing and content accuracy on the screen; Additionally, oversee the timely acquisition of DCPs and KDMs from distributors; Maintain the quality of both image and sound by conducting projector and sound alignments and calibrations; Take care of cleaning, repairs, and necessary maintenance for systems, projectors, computers, and other equipment per contracts and agreements with IMAX and Evans & Sutherland; Consistently monitor and uphold the quality of the theater, including seats, stairs, handrails, screens, and related elements; and provides training to relevant staff members in the operation and troubleshooting of theater equipment.
Serve as the primary liaison for University Facilities, Environmental Health & Safety, Information Technology, Building Services, University Technology Support Services, Key Shop, and external vendors, promoting effective communication and collaboration between these groups; and some duties may involve working outside regular business hours.
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalency and five years of related experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Recommended Competencies
Knowledge of the concepts, practices, and procedures within the audio-visual field;
Knowledge of applicable computer software and operating systems;
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously;
Ability to utilize problem-solving skills;
Ability to use technical skills;
Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices; and
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
