Florida A&M University’s Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC) is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Assistant Director of Career Development Services (Career Coaching) vacancy.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Director of Career Coaching leads the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of career coaching services, undergraduate student engagement strategies, and career readiness programming. This role ensures that undergraduate students have access to high-quality coaching, resources, and developmental experiences that prepare them for meaningful career outcomes. This position serves as the primary leader for career coaching operations and staff development, overseeing Career Pathways Coaches and student-facing programming. While collaborating closely with employer relations and experiential learning functions, this role does not serve as the primary lead for internships, experiential learning strategy, or graduate student career development, allowing for a focused and high-impact undergraduate coaching model.

Lead the development and implementation of a university-wide career coaching model that ensures access, scalability, and impact; Oversee daily operations of career coaching services, including appointments, drop-ins, workshops, and embedded coaching initiatives; Ensure delivery of high-quality coaching in areas such as: Career exploration and pathway development, Internship and job search preparation, Resume and interview preparation, Networking and personal branding, Graduate/professional school preparation; Expand innovative approaches to coaching, including group coaching, digital delivery, and AI-enhanced tools; Increase student engagement with CPDC services, with intentional focus on early engagement and FTIC student success; and partner with academic colleges and departments to integrate career coaching into the undergraduate student experience.

Support the implementation of career readiness initiatives, including the Career Foundations Micro-Certificate, as directed; Integrate NACE Career Competencies, CPDC’s CAR Framework, and institutional priorities into coaching and programming; Design and deliver workshops, classroom presentations, and large-scale programming aligned with student needs and workforce trends; Equip students with the skills, confidence, and strategies necessary to successfully navigate career pathways and opportunities; Supervise Career Pathways Coaches, graduate assistants, and Career Peer Educators; and establish clear performance expectations, coaching standards, and service delivery protocols.

Provide ongoing training and professional development grounded in: Coaching methodologies (e.g., Co-Active Coaching principles), career development theory and practice, technology and data-informed advising, foster a high-performing, collaborative team culture aligned with CPDC values, lead assessment of coaching services and student learning outcomes, utilize platforms such as Handshake to track engagement, utilization, and impact; and analyze data to inform strategy, improve service delivery, and support institutional reporting.

Contribute to CPDC’s annual reporting, strategic planning, and performance metrics aligned with: SUS Performance-Based Funding (Metrics 1 & 2), NACE Career Competencies, CAS Learning Outcomes.Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Corporate & Alumni Relations to align student preparation with employer expectations; Work in partnership with the Data & Experiential Learning Outcomes Analyst to support data-informed decision-making and reporting; and support departmental initiatives, special projects, and university priorities as assigned.

Annually increase undergraduate student engagement with CPDC career coaching services by at least 10%, as measured by unique student appointments and program participation tracked in Handshake, with a focus on expanding access and early engagement among First-Time-in-College (FTIC) students; Improve student career readiness outcomes by ensuring that 80% of students who participate in career coaching services demonstrate measurable gains in at least one NACE Career Competency, as assessed through post-engagement surveys, workshop evaluations, or coaching reflections by the end of the academic year; and annually increase by 5–8% the number of undergraduate students who progress from career coaching engagement to the career opportunity pipeline, as measured by students who complete coaching and subsequently apply to, interview for, or secure internships or full-time opportunities as documented in Handshake or other approved tracking methods.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization and four years of related experience; or master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of related experience.

Recommended Competencies

Demonstrated experience supervising and developing professional staff;

Strong background in career coaching models and student development theory;

Experience designing and scaling career readiness programs;

Familiarity with career readiness frameworks (e.g., NACE);

Experience working with student populations, including first-generation students;

Proficiency with career services technologies (e.g., Handshake);

Strong assessment and data utilization skills;

Excellent communication, facilitation, and leadership abilities;

Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices;

Ability to maintain and improve personal and team effectiveness, and foster change and creativity; and,

Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs, or related field with a minimum of 5–6 years of progressive experience in career services, coaching, or student development.

Pay Plan

This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.
