Instructional Assistant (SPED)

Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as an Instructional Assistant in the Special Education Department at Florence School District Three. In this full-time position, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning needs, helping them to achieve their academic and personal goals. You will work closely with teachers and other staff to create an inclusive and nurturing environment that fosters growth and development for all students.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
• Provide one-on-one and small group support to students in various subjects and activities.
• Help create and maintain a positive and structured classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and participation, providing feedback to teachers as needed.
• Assist with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom resources.
• Support students during transitions between classes, lunch, and other activities.
• Collaborate with teachers and other staff to adapt lessons and accommodations based on student needs.
• Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to special education.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to foster a supportive learning community.
• Assist in maintaining a safe and clean classroom environment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, in an educational setting is highly desirable.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with students and collaborate with staff.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
• Ability to implement behavioral management strategies and provide support for students with diverse learning needs.
• Familiarity with educational technology and tools to enhance learning experiences.
• Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to the needs of the classroom and students.
• Certification or training in CPR and First Aid is a plus.
