Library Assistant

Job Description

The Library Assistant - Circulation greets visitors to the library, creates and maintains patron accounts, checks materials in and out, and performs other related duties.

Essential Functions

• Provides exceptional customer service to external and internal customers. Responds to and resolves patron questions or concerns.
• Greets patrons and maintains a welcoming library atmosphere.
• Checks materials in and out, creates and updates patron accounts, shelves materials, and assists patrons in finding materials.
• Assists patrons with searching the catalog and requesting materials. Provides reader’s advisory and book recommendations.
• Processes and labels new materials; assists with repairs to damaged library materials.
• Assists with book displays to promote library usage.
• Participates in library’s ongoing developmental training program.
  
  

Non-Essential Functions

• Assists with library programs or outreach events as needed.
• Moves and arranges furniture and equipment as needed.
• Works evenings and weekends as required.
• Performs all other related duties as required.
  
  

Qualifications: Education and Work Experience

• High School diploma; 1-2 years of library or customer service experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge and skills.
• Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and office equipment.

• Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, carry, move and lift 10 lb. objects regularly.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
