SUMMARY
The Therapist is responsible for performing client care activities as directed by the Clinical Director. They will provide group therapy as directed by the Clinical Director. Collaborates with the Treatment Team in the formulation of the Master Treatment Plan and assists in coordinating discharge planning. Maintains open communication lines with facility staff, attending clinicians and physicians, clients and families. Liaison with community agencies, and vendors. Therapist will provide individual and group therapy sessions for clients. This role will help guide and direct clients during sessions and throughout their stay. Group notes support clinical necessity and progress toward treatment plan goals.
JOB FUNCTIONS

- Actively participates in Interdisciplinary Treatment Plan meetings.
- Shares pertinent information with team as obtained from client’s family, or others as indicated throughout program.
- Completes psychosocial intake on clients within appropriate time frame.
- Completes the master treatment plan within the appropriate timeframe.
- Counsel clients or clients, individually or in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, or making change.
- Collaborate with other staff members to perform clinical assessments or develop treatment plans.
- Recognizes, responds to and assists in psychiatric crisis situations and provide the intervention necessary.
- De-escalates AMA/ACA and other client problems.
- Conducts and documents a daily group for all clients. Provides a group on topics to include reviewing the orientation manual, and schedule. Provides other groups that include education groups focused on the disease process and the need for continued treatment. Documents all groups in the client medical record as well as documents clients that do not attend groups for medical reasons.
- Completes and updates individual treatment plan specific to each assigned client.
- Completes discharge session/paperwork with each assigned client.
- Communicate with administrative and clinical staff any concerning issues that may affect client’s sobriety or treatment within the facility including matters of job, family and insurance.
- Documents all activities in the client medical record and files all notes in the charts on a daily basis for UR purposes.
- Maintains inventory of self-help literature and client orientation manual with distribution to all clients.
- Counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, or supporting clients.
- Attends daily staff meetings to enhance communication with clinical staff regarding program and client issues.
- Pursue professional development through participation in education and training programs.
- Participate in required staff training (minimum 20 hours).
- Complete incident reports according to policy in a timely, accurate manner.
- Interact appropriately with clients, showing them respect while maintaining boundaries.
- Maintain professional demeanor at all times.
- Exercise sound professional judgment and seek assistance as necessary to effectively manage client behavior.
- Adheres to Company policies and procedures, State Rules and Regulations, Joint Commission Standards.
- Have good work habits: get things done in a timely, efficient manner, adhere to time schedules, maintain good communication, demonstrate willingness to accept responsibility and function well as a team member and contribute positively to the morale of staff.
- Participate in Quality Improvement activities and contribute to the welfare of the organization.
- Protect the privacy of all client information in accordance with privacy policies, procedures and practices, as required by federal and state law, and in accordance with the general principle of professionalism as a healthcare provider. Failure to comply with policies and procedures on client privacy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
- May access protected health information (PHI) and other client information only to the extent that is necessary to complete job duties. The incumbent may only share such information with those who have a need to know specific client information you have in your possession to complete their job responsibilities related to treatment, payment or other operations.
- Performs other duties assigned.
- Master’s Degree in Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Social Work or related field
- LSW, LCSW, LAC, or LCADC with the State of New Jersey required
- Experience in substance abuse and/or mental health treatment (required)
- Strong understanding of co-occurring disorders
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
