The Staff Accountant is responsible for safeguarding the financial integrity and operational soundness of a multi-office financial services practice. This role provides leadership in managing day-to-day accounting operations while supporting the organization’s overall financial health and long-term growth. Working closely with senior leadership, the Staff Accountant ensures accurate financial reporting, effective internal controls, regulatory compliance, and strategic budget oversight to drive informed decision-making and operational excellence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all office accounting records.
- Oversee vendor relationships and administer payroll activities for office staff.
- Process financial representative commissions and allowances in a timely and accurate manner.
- Administer employee benefit plans, including medical, retirement, and cafeteria plans.
- Establish and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets.
- Monitor and manage all banking activities.
- Prepare and manage quarterly tax submissions to the IRS and coordinate with external accountants on annual federal and state tax filings.
- Educate new financial representatives on compensation structures, including commissions, fees, and bonuses.
- Manage corporate credit card billing, receipt collection, and financial reporting.
- Monitor financial representative indebtedness and administer collection procedures as necessary.
- Forecast and prepare operational budgets and regularly analyze financial statements against budget projections, recommending corrective action as needed.
- Monitor and optimize cash flow, including home office reimbursement plans.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Three or more years of accounting experience, including financial statement preparation, general ledger maintenance, annual tax filings, payroll processing, and benefits administration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
