Summary
The Project Superintendent at Empire Construction supervises field construction for commercial buildouts in restaurants, gyms, warehouses, and offices. This role ensures that projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to specified quality standards. Key responsibilities include safeguarding and promoting Empire’s interests while executing all necessary duties to meet these objectives.
Essential Functions
- Coordinate and schedule work activities for tradespeople, professionals, and laborers, communicating instructions and assignments via the project foreperson.
- Conduct and document weekly coordination and safety meetings, providing updates to the Project Manager and address safety violations or deficiencies immediately while enforcing safety procedures and site rules.
- Regularly inspect work for quality and timeliness, preparing progress reports and ensuring timely preparation and review of monthly requisitions for owner and architect approval.
- Oversee and inspect the work of subcontractors and suppliers to ensure adherence to standards, contract requirements, and safety programs.
- Ensure all zoning requirements, regulations, and specifications in architectural and engineering plans are met, examining contract documents for design deficiencies and code violations.
- Monitor the project budget, communicate variances as they occur, and maintain records of costs and inventory.
- Secure necessary permits and licenses, ensuring safety notices are posted and regulatory compliance is maintained.
- Act as a liaison between the project and relevant stakeholders (architects, engineers, attorneys, union representatives) to ensure specifications and regulations are met.
- Maintain excellent communication with stakeholders, project staff, and the public.
- Collaborate with inspection agencies to resolve identified issues and ensure project quality.
- Regularly update Procore with job progress, including status updates and site photos.
- Collaborate with union representatives to answer questions and clarify procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Core Skills and Competencies
- Experience with Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, MS Word, and Excel is highly desirable.
- Ability to read, understand, and execute blueprints, drawings, and plans.
- Thorough understanding of legal requirements relating to construction and building sites.
- Extremely detail-oriented.
- Ability to oversee and coordinate a variety of people in different roles
- Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field required.
- Minimum of five years of experience in building trade required.
Travel and On-Site Requirement
This position requires the Construction Superintendent to travel to designated job sites and remain on location, typically in hotel accommodations, until project completion. This extended travel and on-site stay is a condition of employment, with appropriate travel expenses and per diem allowances provided.
Job Conditions
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the construction site in all types of weather.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
- Must comply with strict safety protocols and procedures. Protective equipment, such as hard hats, is commonly worn on-site.
- Exposure to all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and inclement weather, as construction sites are primarily outdoors.
- Frequently exposed to high levels of noise from heavy machinery and construction equipment, requiring focus and attention in a distracting environment.
