Position Summary
The Director of Summer Program Instruction collaborates closely with the Director of Expanded Learning to plan and execute the summer academic vision. With a deep understanding of the value of hands-on learning, this role involves direct support for academic facilitators delivering academic instruction. The Director of Summer Program Instruction works closely with teachers to ensure the successful implementation of academic and enrichment programming. The ideal candidate is passionate about pushing student learning in both academic and enrichment areas.
Responsibilities
- Academic Vision and Planning: Work collaboratively with the Director of Expanded Learning to shape and execute the summer academic vision. Contribute creative ideas and strategies to enhance hands-on, academically enriching experiences throughout the program.
- Curriculum Implementation Support: Oversee the delivery of academic lessons and activities, ensuring teachers implement instructional strategies with fidelity and consistency across all classrooms.
- Teacher Coaching: Provide real-time coaching and constructive feedback to teachers during and after lessons, supporting their growth in instructional technique, student engagement, and classroom management.
- Observation and Feedback Cycles: Conduct regular observations of teachers delivering instruction, documenting strengths and areas for growth and holding follow-up coaching conversations to drive continuous improvement.
- Inclusive Instructional Practices: Model and coach teachers on strategies that create welcoming, inclusive classrooms where all students feel valued, with attention to diverse learning styles and backgrounds.
- Collaborative Teaming: Partner with program leaders and the Director of Expanded Learning to align on coaching priorities, share observations, and ensure a unified approach to academic delivery site-wide.
- Professional Development: Design and deliver professional development sessions for teachers focused on effective instruction, hands-on learning strategies, and academic enrichment.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Lead academic data meetings with teachers to analyze student progress, identify areas for improvement, and implement targeted instructional strategies to strengthen learning outcomes.
- Equity in Education: Work with the Director of Expanded Learning to ensure equitable practices are embedded in summer academic programming, so all students have access to a high-quality and inclusive learning experience.
- Program Feedback and Reporting: Collect and synthesize teacher and student feedback, maintain observation records, and report regularly to the Director of Expanded Learning on instructional progress and areas for improvement.
- Other tasks as assigned or necessary for program success.
