Background Check Specialist

The organization is seeking a Background Check Specialist to support the end-to-end background screening process for employees and contingent workers within a highly regulated environment. This role is responsible for ensuring compliant onboarding by initiating, monitoring, reviewing, and adjudicating background investigations while maintaining adherence to company policies, regulatory requirements, and service level agreements. The specialist will utilize platforms such as First Advantage and HR systems to review criminal and non-criminal screening results, OFAC and sanctions screenings, fingerprinting, adverse media findings, and onboarding gating controls prior to worker activation or system access. As part of the Global HR Operations team, this position partners closely with Talent Acquisition, Compliance, Legal, Procurement, Security, and business stakeholders to support workforce governance, audit readiness, and operational risk management.

• Administer and manage end-to-end background screening processes for employees and contingent workers using First Advantage, HRIS, and onboarding technologies while ensuring compliance with company policies and regional requirements.
• Initiate, monitor, and track background investigations in alignment with onboarding timelines and service level agreements.
• Coordinate screening requirements based on worker type, job function, geography, and regulatory obligations.
• Ensure all required screening components are completed and reviewed before granting clearance, worker activation, or system access.
• Review screening results including criminal history, non-criminal findings, OFAC and sanctions screenings, adverse media reviews, education and employment verification, and fingerprinting results.
• Apply established adjudication guidelines, conduct case reviews, and escalate findings in accordance with company protocols.
• Partner with Compliance, Legal, HR Operations, Talent Acquisition, Security, and business stakeholders on sensitive or escalated screening cases.
• Support adverse action processes and documentation in compliance with FCRA and applicable employment regulations.
• Maintain audit-ready documentation, evidence retention records, standard operating procedures, and workflow documentation.
• Identify process improvement opportunities, compliance risks, and operational efficiencies across screening and onboarding workflows.
• Participate in quality assurance reviews, compliance audits, reporting activities, and process validation initiatives.
• Provide support across multiple regions, business units, and contingent workforce programs.
  
  

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Compliance, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
• 3 years of experience in background screening, onboarding operations, compliance operations, workforce administration, or HR operations.
• Experience administering background screening programs, adjudication workflows, and case management activities.
• Hands-on experience with First Advantage, HireRight, Sterling, Checkr, or similar background screening platforms.
• Knowledge of employment screening regulations, including FCRA, sanctions screening requirements, and related compliance standards.
• Experience reviewing criminal and non-criminal background investigation results and applying adjudication guidelines.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume operational environment.
• Experience with HRIS, HCM, and onboarding technologies such as Oracle, Fieldglass, Workday, or similar systems preferred.
  
  

• Experience working in highly regulated, compliance-driven, or audit-sensitive environments.
• Exposure to contingent workforce management, workforce governance, or onboarding controls.
• Experience supporting audit activities, quality assurance reviews, and operational compliance initiatives.
