Position Overview
We are seeking a DB2 Mainframe DBA to support enterprise database systems in a high-availability environment.
This role focuses on performance tuning, system optimization, and database administration for DB2 on z/OS, supporting critical production systems and large-scale enterprise applications.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Performance Tuning
Monitor and optimize DB2 subsystem performance (CPU, I/O, buffer pools, locking, queries)
Perform SQL tuning, index optimization, and query performance enhancements
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks
Monitoring & Troubleshooting
Utilize tools such as Omegamon, EXPLAIN, RMF, and SMF to monitor system health
Set up alerts and proactively identify risks and performance issues
Troubleshoot and resolve production database issues
Database Maintenance & Upgrades
Plan and execute DB2 maintenance including PTFs, service packs, and version upgrades
Perform database utilities and maintenance activities
Ensure high availability, reliability, and system stability
Collaboration & Application Support
Work with application teams to understand requirements and recommend solutions
Act as the primary DBA contact for onboarding, upgrades, and enhancements
Collaborate with cross-functional teams on enterprise projects
Compliance & Security
Ensure adherence to SOX, audit, and database security best practices
Maintain documentation and support compliance-related activities
Required Qualifications
5–10 years of hands-on DB2 for z/OS DBA experience in enterprise environments
Strong experience with performance tuning, SQL optimization, and database utilities
Experience supporting critical production systems with high availability requirements
Strong knowledge of DB2 z/OS architecture, subsystems, logging, and recovery
Experience with monitoring tools such as Omegamon
Understanding of z/OS concepts (datasets, JCL, batch processing, scheduling)
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Strong collaboration and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in manufacturing or similar enterprise environments
Experience supporting large-scale projects and cross-functional teams
Strong knowledge of audit processes and compliance frameworks
3 years of Big 4 consulting experience
Stable work history within large enterprise organizations
