Responsibilities:
Meet with application teams to understand requirements and recommend high-level direction and approach to upcoming projects. • Fine-tuning database systems to enhance performance, scalability, and reliability. This includes monitoring and optimizing database query performance, indexing, and database caching. • Monitor database performance using built-in tools and third-party solutions. Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks through query optimization, index tuning, and configuration adjustments. • Utilize monitoring tools to track database health, performance metrics, and security events. Set up alerts to notify administrators of potential issues.
What Will the Person Be Working On:
- Act as the primary DBA contact during application onboarding, upgrades, and major enhancements.
- Monitor DB2 subsystem performance (CPU, I/O, buffer pools, locking, queries).
- Analyze and resolve performance issues using tools such as Omegamon, EXPLAIN, RMF, SMF, and native DB2 utilities.
- Perform SQL performance tuning and index optimization in collaboration with application teams.
- Plan and execute DB2 maintenance activities including PTFs, service packs, and version upgrades.
- Proactively identify risks and improvement opportunities to ensure high availability and reliability.
Wants:
- 5–10 years of hands on DB2 for z/OS (Manufacturing) DBA experience in large enterprise environments.
- Experience supporting critical production systems with 24x7 availability requirements.
- Strong experience in performance tuning, database utilities, and mainframe operations.
- Experience working on large scale projects and coordinating with cross functional teams.
- Deep knowledge of DB2 z/OS architecture, subsystems, utilities, logging, and recovery.
- Strong SQL tuning and execution plan analysis skills.
- Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Omegamon) and mainframe performance metrics.
- Understanding of z/OS concepts including datasets, JCL, batch processing, and scheduling.
- Strong knowledge of SOX, audit processes, and database security best practices.
