Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The position will assist the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in managing key functions of the Finance Department, including receivables, cashiering, accounts payable, long‑term obligations, general accounting, financial reporting, financial analysis, budgeting, grants and sponsored research programs, and treasury. It will also support the CFO in managing financial risks, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting and governmental standards, and assessing, developing, and monitoring internal controls to promote accountability and reduce the risk of fraud.
The position oversees the department heads responsible for these functional areas and provides leadership focused on coaching, developing, and empowering staff to strengthen performance, build technical and managerial capacity, and promote a collaborative, service‑oriented culture. This position also serves as the senior accounting officer for the College, providing oversight of accounting operations, financial reporting, budget administration, and internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial information and adherence to GASB, GAAP, state and federal requirements, and Board policies.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in finance or accounting.
Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible accounting experience including experience with complex financial reporting or compliance environments.
Minimum Of Four (4) Years Supervising Multiple Accounting Functions.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards.
Knowledge of federal and state laws applicable to Texas public higher education.
Strong technical accounting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to assess financial risk and design effective internal controls.
Experience presenting complex financial information to executive leadership and governing boards.
Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a Texas community college environment.
Experience in higher education or governmental accounting, including grant accounting.
Experience with applying GASB standards in governmental or public-sector financial reporting.
Experience leading or coordinating annual financial audits, single audits, or comparable compliance audits.
Experience overseeing or supporting development of institution-wide operating and capital budgets.
Experience with ERP systems such as Ellucian Colleague, Banner, or comparable platforms.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA candidate.
