Superintendent - Commercial & Retail Tenant Improvements
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead on-site execution of commercial and retail construction projects, with a focus on ground up and tenant improvements. The Superintendent will manage daily field operations, ensure safety and quality standards, coordinate subcontractors, maintain project schedules and budgets, and communicate with owners, project managers, and stakeholders to deliver occupied and open-store remodels, ground-up and retrofit projects on time and within scope.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage daily field operations for tenant improvement, retail, commercial construction and banking projects, ensuring adherence to plans, specifications and quality standards.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors and site labor to meet project schedules and milestones, proactively resolving conflicts and bottlenecks.
- Implement and enforce site safety protocols and OSHA requirements, maintaining a safe, organized and compliant jobsite.
- Manage logistics for occupied buildings, open store remodels and restaurant/QSR projects to minimize disruption to operations and customers.
- Read, interpret and execute construction drawings, RFIs and submittals; coordinate changes with project management and design teams.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, schedules, manpower logs, material deliveries and quality control documentation; use Procore or similar construction management platforms for project tracking.
- Conduct site inspections and quality checks at critical milestones; coordinate punch lists and closeout activities to ensure owner satisfaction.
- Collaborate with project managers, owners, and clients (including banking institutions) on project progress, budget impacts, and schedule adjustments.
- Support procurement and site coordination for specialized projects such as fuel stations, grocery store remodels, and Class A office space retrofits.
- Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned, identifying efficiencies and supporting project team training.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of superintendent or lead field foreman experience on commercial construction projects, with demonstrable experience in tenant improvements and retail environments.
- Proven track record managing banking branch renovations, tenant improvements and occupied building remodels with minimal operational disruption.
- Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, codes and best practices; experience with ground-up construction, retrofitting and Class A office space projects is a plus.
- Proficiency with construction management software (Procore preferred) and ability to manage RFIs, submittals and daily reporting.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred; strong commitment to enforcing jobsite safety and OSHA standards.
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation; ability to work flexible hours and travel between project sites as required.
- Preferred: prior experience with office, hospitality and retail fit-outs, as well as working in occupied buildings and customer-facing project environments.
