What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer position at CyberCoders?
Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer to lead complex electromechanical and electronic hardware development from concept through production. This role combines deep technical expertise in PCB and system-level design with strategic leadership: defining architecture, driving design-for-manufacturability, ensuring regulatory compliance, and mentoring engineering teams to deliver robust, manufacturable products on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead architecture, design and verification of complex electronic systems and electromechanical hardware, including analog, digital, RF and power electronics.
- Own and drive PCB design efforts using tools such as Altium Designer; develop high-quality schematics, multi-layer layouts, and perform signal integrity and power integrity analysis.
- Develop embedded firmware and hardware interfaces for microcontroller-based systems; collaborate with software teams to define interfaces and bring-up boards.
- Create and execute validation, verification and test plans; develop automated test rigs and procedures (LabVIEW experience preferred) and guide production test strategy.
- Integrate mechanical and electrical design using SolidWorks and AutoCAD to ensure proper fit, thermal management, and manufacturability of electromechanical assemblies.
- Define component selection strategy, perform reliability and tolerance analysis, and work with supply chain to qualify parts and vendors.
- Lead design reviews, mentor and coach engineers, establish best practices (DFM, DFA, DFT) and set engineering standards across projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory to meet cost, schedule and compliance targets (EMC/EMI, safety standards).
- Manage prototype builds, lab debug sessions, failure analysis, root-cause investigations and corrective actions to improve product robustness.
- Provide technical leadership in project planning, risk assessment, technical trade-offs and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Masters or PhD preferred.
- 8 years of progressive experience in electronic hardware development; track record of leading complex projects from concept to production.
- Expert-level experience with PCB design preferably using Altium Designer; strong knowledge of layout rules, stack-ups, impedance control and manufacturing constraints.
- Demonstrated experience with embedded microcontroller systems, peripherals, and hardware bring-up.
- Hands-on experience developing test solutions and automated test software (LabVIEW or equivalent) and producing production test plans.
- Proficiency with mechanical integration tools such as SolidWorks or other 2D/3D CAD tools (AutoCAD); experience in electromechanical hardware development.
Bonus Points: - Strong understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC mitigation, thermal design and reliability engineering.
- Experience with manufacturing processes, supplier qualification, RoHS/REACH, IPC standards, and design-for-manufacture principles.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication and leadership skills; demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and influence cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to spend time in the lab and on the production floor; travel to suppliers or contract manufacturers as required.
Benefits
- Full benefits (medical, dental, vision)
- Life Insurance
- 401k with company matching
- Very generous PTO policy
- Huge room for career growth
- Flexible work schedule
