Principal Manufacturing is seeking a Quality Engineer to join our team in Broadview, IL. As a leader in fineblanking, conventional stamping and plastic injection molding, Principal Manufacturing sets itself above the competition.
The Quality Engineer supports the plant Quality Manager by leading structured problem solving, risk reduction, and continuous improvement activities in a high‑volume / high‑mix automotive manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for customer complaint resolution. .
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Customer Complaints and 8D Problem Solving, investigation of customer complaints and lead structed problem solving using the 8D methodology
- Quality System and Audit Support, Inter, customer and supplier audits, prepare documentation and evidence. Closing assigned audit findings by agreed upon deadlines.
- Material and MRB - Disposition suspect and nonconforming material per MRB authority and quality procedures. Support the reduction of scrap and rework costs
- Containment and Clean Point Definition, Lead containment activities, collaborate with quality control to define, document and communicate clean points from supplier through internal process to customer shipment. Ensure Containment effectiveness.
- Continuous Improvement and Risk Reduction, support reduction of internal PPM and customer PPM.
- PFMEA and Control Plan. Update PFMEA's and control plants following the process changes or new risk. Reduce high risk items through document mitigation actions.
- Process Eng. Support, Develop and improve process for fine blank, conventional, and deburring departments. Conduct monthly process audits.
- Troubleshoot design of tooling, fixtures, and processes to assist operators and improve production processes.
- Provide assistance to the production floor to ensure part quality and on-time delivery.
Required Skill/Knowledge:
- Experience in IATF 16949 preferred, ISO 9001 at minimum. Experience in quality systems and auditing. Certified Internal Auditing is a plus.
- Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret documents such as design records/prints, APQP manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract or concrete variables
- Ability to interact with managers, operators, customers, and vendors to determine the root cause of a problem and recommend permanent corrective actions.
- Must be able to work independently when needed, from receipt of customer complaint to submission of 8D report.
Education Level / Required Certification:
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university; 15 year's related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
