What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior PLC / Controls Engineer (Integrator) position at CyberCoders?
Title: Senior PLC / Controls Engineer (Integrator)
Location: Greater Philadelphia, PA (19120) Relocation Package Available Nationwide
Hourly Pay: $55-$65 (Overtime is available) Flexible Schedule
Travel: Low, 5%-10%
This is a hands-on, senior-level controls role with a long-established industrial automation integrator. You will design, build, troubleshoot, and commission real industrial control systems from scratch. This is not a plant maintenance job and not a road-warrior role. Travel is low, autonomy is high, and the technical bar is real.
If you enjoy solving hard problems, owning outcomes, and working on new machines and system builds, this is a place where strong controls engineers thrive.
What You Will Be Doing
- Design and program PLC systems from scratch for new machines, conveyor systems, packaging equipment, and control system upgrades.
- Develop HMI applications from the ground up across multiple projects (not just edits or minor tweaks).
- Support SCADA systems in at least one major commercial platform as part of integrated automation solutions.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting of PLCs, VFDs, motion systems, servos, networks, and industrial electrical controls.
- Lead or support commissioning, startup, and system testing at customer facilities once systems are ready to run.
- Handle a mix of project work and service work, including reverse engineering legacy systems, planning migrations, and implementing same-brand PLC upgrades.
- Create, modify, and review electrical drawings using AutoCAD or equivalent tools for real machine and system designs.
- Work directly with customers and take ownership of technical decisions in the field, with support from a highly experienced senior team when needed.
What You Need For This Job
- Strong experience as a Controls Engineer or PLC Engineer with an integrator or project-based automation environment.
- Proven ability to write PLC code from scratch, not just troubleshoot or modify existing programs.
- Hands-on experience building HMI applications from the ground up on multiple projects.
- Exposure to SCADA systems within industrial automation environments.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across PLCs, motion control, VFDs, electrical diagnostics, and industrial networks.
- Working knowledge of OT networks and industrial communication protocols.
- Comfort with service work as part of a broader project role.
- Experience with AutoCAD or equivalent electrical design tools used in real-world equipment and system layouts.
- Motion control, servo systems, or robotics experience is a plus, but not a deal breaker.
What's In It For You
- Full benefits package (Excellent health and dental insurance, Retirement accounts WITH MATCH, PTO, Company Holidays, etc)
