Position Overview
The Plant Supervisor (Extrusion Coating) will lead day-to-day production operations within the extrusion coating area, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing of coated film and sheet products. This role focuses on supervising operators and maintenance staff, optimizing processes, meeting production targets, enforcing safety and quality standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to support customer requirements and plant goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of operators, technicians, and support staff in the extrusion coating area to meet production schedules and output targets.
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members through on-the-job training, performance feedback, and structured development plans; manage staffing, scheduling, and time-off requests.
- Oversee start-up, changeovers, and shutdowns of extrusion coating lines, ensuring adherence to safe operating procedures and minimizing downtime.
- Monitor production metrics (yield, throughput, scrap rates, downtime) and implement corrective actions to improve efficiency and product quality.
- Collaborate with maintenance and engineering to diagnose equipment issues, prioritize repairs, and support preventive maintenance and reliability programs.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations; lead regular safety meetings, incident investigations, and corrective action follow-up.
- Maintain and enforce quality control measures, including process checks, documentation, and coordination with quality assurance to resolve defects or customer complaints.
- Drive continuous improvement projects (5S, Lean, Kaizen, SPC) to reduce waste, increase productivity, and lower cost of production.
- Manage inventory of raw materials and consumables for the extrusion coating lines and coordinate with planners to prevent supply disruptions.
- Prepare production reports, shift logs, and communicate performance and priorities to plant management and cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
- Proven people management experience supervising production or manufacturing teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
- Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in extrusion coating or related film/film coating environments preferred.
- Strong understanding of extrusion coating processes, roll-to-roll film handling, and coating chemistry is highly desirable.
- Experience with plastics manufacturing, film processing, or flexible packaging production is a plus.
- Knowledge of industrial equipment used in extrusion, coating, and converting operations; ability to read basic mechanical and electrical schematics.
- Demonstrated track record of meeting production targets, improving line efficiency, and reducing scrap or waste.
- Familiarity with quality systems (e.g., ISO), statistical process control (SPC), and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Kaizen, 5S).
- Strong safety mindset with experience implementing and enforcing safe work practices.
- Good verbal and written communication skills; able to prepare reports, lead meetings, and interact with cross-functional teams.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical diploma, associate degree, or relevant manufacturing certifications preferred.
