Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Civil/Marine Superintendent to lead field operations for large-scale marine and heavy civil construction projects. The Superintendent will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all on-site activities including pile driving, concrete placement, grading, earthwork, and marine logistics. The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge of marine and heavy civil construction with proven leadership skills, a focus on safety and quality, and the ability to manage subcontractors, equipment, and client relationships to deliver projects on schedule and on budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily field operations for heavy civil and marine construction projects, including pile driving, cofferdam installation, dredging support, concrete works, grading, and earthwork.
- Plan and schedule work sequences in coordination with project management, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely project execution.
- Supervise and coordinate crews and subcontractors, ensuring productivity, quality workmanship, and adherence to project plans and specifications.
- Manage marine logistics including barges, tugs, mooring, load-out operations, and offshore or nearshore mobilizations.
- Ensure strict compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements; lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and incident investigations.
- Perform quality control and inspection of construction activities; verify materials, tolerances, and workmanship meet contract and engineering requirements.
- Coordinate equipment mobilization, maintenance, and utilization for pile driving rigs, excavators, dozers, concrete pumps, and other heavy equipment.
- Maintain project documentation: daily reports, progress photos, RFI/logs, change orders, manpower reports, and as-built records.
- Collaborate with project managers to track schedule, identify risks, recommend corrective actions, and support budget control and claims management.
- Interface with clients, engineers, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to resolve field issues and maintain strong working relationships.
Qualifications
- 8 years of progressive experience in heavy civil and marine construction, with demonstrated superintendent-level experience on marine projects.
- Proven hands-on experience with pile driving operations, marine structures, cofferdams, concrete placement, grading, and earthwork.
- Strong knowledge of marine construction methods, maritime logistics, and applicable codes and standards (USACE, ACI, OSHA, local permitting).
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and extensive field experience.
- Certifications: OSHA 30, TWIC card preferred, First Aid/CPR; training or certifications for rigging, crane operations, or marine vessel operations are a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports; proficient with field documentation and reporting tools.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building skills with experience managing multi-discipline crews and subcontractors.
