Associate Attorney - Commercial Litigation

Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our commercial litigation team. The successful candidate will manage complex commercial disputes from inception through resolution, including drafting pleadings and motions, conducting legal research, handling document review and discovery, taking and defending depositions, and representing clients in hearings. This role requires strong analytical and writing skills, practical courtroom experience, and the ability to work collaboratively on fast-paced matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all phases of commercial litigation matters, including case assessment, strategy development, and trial preparation
• Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, settlement agreements, and other court documents
• Conduct comprehensive legal research and prepare memoranda on substantive and procedural issues
• Perform document review and e-discovery tasks efficiently and accurately; manage document productions
• Take and defend depositions and prepare witnesses for testimony
• Prepare and respond to written discovery, including interrogatories and requests for production
• Appear in court and administrative proceedings, including hearings, status conferences, and motion practice
• Collaborate with partners, senior attorneys, and support staff to develop case strategy and meet deadlines
• Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel
• Supervise and mentor junior associates, paralegals, and contract reviewers as needed

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar admission in Oregon
• 5 years of commercial litigation experience at a law firm or in-house litigation team (varies by level)
• Demonstrated experience in document review, discovery practice, and e-discovery platforms
• Strong litigation skills, including drafting pleadings and motions, conducting depositions, and courtroom appearances
• Excellent legal research and persuasive writing skills
• Proven ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Familiarity with commercial litigation subjects such as contract disputes, business torts, shareholder and partnership disputes, and breach of fiduciary duty
• High professional and ethical standards, strong attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills
• Willingness to travel for depositions, mediations, and court appearances when necessary
