What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Development Specialist, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site position in Brownsville, TX (relocation support provided)
- $100,000 annual salary paid weekly, plus health benefits
At Alpha, academic content is delivered through software. Adaptive applications guide each learner through material at an individualized pace. There are no lectures, no homework assignments, no grading papers. This structure allows you to focus on what genuinely transforms lives: facilitating life skill workshops where high school students develop public speaking ability, concentration, and feedback literacy, then providing personalized coaching to maintain their motivation and achieve learning milestones. You'll spend half your time facilitating group sessions. The other half involves one-on-one conversations with students, analyzing Coachbot data to pinpoint precisely where they're encountering obstacles and understanding why.
Students complete a mastery-based assessment following each workshop. Over 90% should provide positive evaluations of your work. 100% should demonstrate progress in their learning applications. These aren't hopeful targets; they're performance standards. Maintaining high expectations for students demonstrates your confidence in their potential. Through this process, you'll develop expertise in creating workshops that teenagers genuinely want to attend, mastering advanced learning technology, and forming meaningful relationships with students and families. Our Brownsville campus is located adjacent to SpaceX. The cutting edge of education intersects with the cutting edge of aerospace, and you'll be the one fulfilling Alpha's foundational commitment: students who are enthusiastic about school, learn at twice the conventional rate, and acquire genuinely valuable capabilities. If you've been searching for a school that operates according to your vision of how education should function, you've found it.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skill workshops for high school students covering subjects such as public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange, followed by mastery measurement through structured Test2Pass assessments
- Conducting daily motivational coaching sessions using Coachbot analytics to engage individual students, determine obstacles in their app-based learning, and help them overcome resistance
- Collaborating with students to develop personalized motivational approaches, including reward systems and incentives that encourage independent progress through academic applications
- Examining curriculum materials and lesson plans prior to each session, then adjusting your delivery approach based on group dynamics
- Delivering academic instruction. Software manages mathematics, literacy, and all other subject areas.
- Overseeing school operations or supervising staff. No budget responsibilities, no recruitment, no administrative meetings; your complete attention remains on your student cohort.
- Enforcing discipline through conventional authority. No detention assignments, no suspension decisions, no "because I said so" mandates. You rely on reasoning and positive reinforcement to create a respectful, energized learning environment.
Develop a cohort of high school students who are enthusiastic about school, learn at 2x the standard pace through adaptive software, and achieve mastery in practical life skills.
