What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Counselor, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site position at the Alpha School campus located in Brownsville, TX
- $100,000 annual W2 salary, distributed weekly. Health benefits begin on day one.
- Relocation assistance provided for a one-school-year campus commitment
Alpha operates the most nontraditional school model you're likely to encounter. Students don't arrange themselves in rows for lectures. They progress through AI-driven learning applications at individualized speeds. The AI manages instructional material. Your responsibility is to facilitate life skills workshops that capture and hold the attention of K-8 students, conduct motivation sessions that drive them toward weekly learning targets, and maintain standards when a student attempts to disengage. Academic progress is self-sustaining. You manage the human dimension.
This position offers a meaningful advancement path, and that path leads to greater student impact. Educators who reliably achieve performance benchmarks (100% cohort achievement of weekly app targets, satisfaction ratings above 90%) advance into Lead Guide positions where they train other educators in these methods. Students remain the central focus.
The campus sits in Brownsville, adjacent to SpaceX's Starbase facility. If your motivation for leaving your current position is the mission — transforming what a child believes about their own capability — rather than a credential for your resume, submit your application.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for K-8 students addressing topics including public speaking, focus, and constructive feedback exchange
- Administering Test2Pass mastery assessments following each workshop to verify students have authentically acquired the skill, not merely attended
- Conducting daily motivation sessions that leverage student profiles, personal interests, and Coachbot analytics to ensure 100% of your cohort achieves weekly app progression targets
- Utilizing storytelling, incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and individual relationships to overcome student reluctance
- Monitoring cohort satisfaction ratings with a 90% benchmark on student survey responses
- Delivering lectures at a whiteboard. Academic advancement occurs through self-directed AI-powered applications, not through your direct instruction.
- Supervising idle screen time. The environment involves students using computers; the work requires active engagement.
- Compromising standards in response to student resistance. Test2Pass requirements remain consistent, even during difficult weeks for individual students.
- Creating curriculum materials independently. Workshop frameworks and lesson plans are supplied; your responsibility is to execute them with the presence and narrative skill that ensures genuine student learning.
- Handling parent communications, admissions processes, or campus operational oversight. Those functions belong to other roles.
Guide a cohort of K-8 students to achieve 100% of weekly academic targets while facilitating life skills workshops that earn satisfaction scores of 90% or higher.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any subject
- Minimum of 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 (elementary and middle school) students
- Strong storytelling and facilitation skills — capable of maintaining the engagement of a room full of children for one hour
- Willing to work on-site at the Alpha campus in Brownsville, TX
- Legal authorization to work in the US without visa sponsorship
- Experience as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program facilitator
- Demonstrated history of high achievement in competitive settings (academic, athletic, or professional)
- Familiarity with self-directed or app-based learning environments
