What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site at the Alpha School campus in Brownsville, TX
- $100,000/year W2 salary, paid weekly. Day-one health benefits.
- Relocation support for a one-school-year campus commitment
Alpha operates the most unconventional school model you'll encounter. Students don't sit in rows listening to lectures. They progress through AI-powered learning applications at individualized paces. AI manages the instructional content. Your responsibility is facilitating life skills workshops that capture the attention of K-8 students, conducting motivation sessions that drive them toward weekly learning targets, and maintaining standards when a student attempts to settle. The academic progression manages itself. You manage the human element.
This position offers a meaningful ceiling: deeper student impact. Educators who consistently achieve their metrics (100% cohort achievement of weekly app goals, 90% satisfaction scores) advance into Lead Guide positions where they train other educators to execute this work more effectively. Students remain the focus.
The campus sits in Brownsville, adjacent to SpaceX's Starbase. If your motivation to leave your current position is the mission — transforming what a student believes about their potential — rather than a credential for your resume, apply.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops with K-8 students addressing public speaking, focus, and giving and receiving feedback
- Administering Test2Pass mastery assessments following each workshop to verify students have authentically acquired the skill, not merely attended
- Conducting daily motivation sessions using student profiles, interests, and Coachbot analytics to achieve 100% cohort completion of weekly app advancement goals
- Employing storytelling, incentives (school currency, leaderboards), and personal connection to overcome student resistance
- Monitoring cohort satisfaction scores toward a 90% benchmark on student surveys
- Standing at a board delivering lectures. Students progress academically through self-guided AI-powered apps, not through your instruction.
- Supervising passively. Kids working on computers is the environment; active engagement is the responsibility.
- Reducing standards when students resist. Test2Pass expectations remain firm, regardless of whether a student is experiencing a difficult week.
- Creating curriculum from nothing. Lesson plans and workshop playbooks are supplied; your responsibility is executing them with the presence and storytelling ability that ensures students genuinely absorb the material.
- Handling parent communications, running admissions processes, or managing campus operations. That falls under a different role.
Coach a cohort of K-8 students to achieve 100% of their weekly academic goals while facilitating life skills workshops with 90% satisfaction scores.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any subject
- At least 3 years of experience working directly with K-8 (elementary and middle school) students
- Compelling storytelling and facilitation presence — able to hold a room of children engaged for an hour
- Willing to work on-site at the Alpha campus in Brownsville, TX
- Legal right to work in the US without visa sponsorship
- Background as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program facilitator
- Track record of high performance in a competitive environment (academic, athletic, or professional)
- Experience working in a self-directed or app-based learning environment
