Reading Interventionist, Alpha - $100,000/year USD

Crossover
Salt Lake, UT Full Time
POSTED ON 5/26/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/17/2026
  • $100,000 annual salary, paid weekly, including health, dental, and vision coverage from day one
  • Full-time on-site at a single Alpha campus: Phoenix, AZ; Oklahoma City or Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, Fort Worth, Houston (South Houston or The Woodlands), or Plano, TX; Park City (Salt Lake City), UT; or Dorado, Puerto Rico (relocation assistance available)
  • 40 hours per week, 100% classroom-based with K-2 students

You have invested years in mastering structured literacy. Whether through Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE, or a Master's in reading, you can identify a student's reading miscue and pinpoint the exact phonemic skill that needs work. You are capable of building a phonics lesson independently, without relying on a scripted curriculum. That baseline is expected. It is not what sets you apart.

What distinguishes you is your ability to captivate young learners. At Alpha, this position is foremost a Guide role: a dynamic, magnetic presence that children are excited to work with. Your structured-literacy background opens the door; your capacity to command the attention of a K-2 group for a 20-minute session is what secures the hire. If "dynamic, magnetic presence" does not reflect who you are, this position is not a fit.

Alpha has reimagined conventional instruction. Academic content is delivered independently via AI-adaptive applications — no whole-group lessons, no textbooks, no uniform pacing calendars. Your role represents the irreplaceable human element. You create targeted small-group reading sessions informed by live student data, and you facilitate motivation activities that push 100% of students toward their weekly app benchmarks using Alpha's motivational framework (campus currency, ranking systems, age-appropriate game mechanics).

Your initial months focus on building trust and rapport. Sessions must be engaging, appropriately leveled, and demonstrably impactful. Student satisfaction metrics and "love your Guide" feedback surveys (goal of 90% or higher) directly reflect your effectiveness. As you establish credibility, your responsibilities expand: analyzing AI-generated progress reports to refine upcoming instruction, communicating fluency improvements and decoding progress to families, and influencing how Alpha's early-literacy model develops in tandem with adaptive technology. As Alpha grows into new locations, the systems you establish will serve as the blueprint for reading instruction across the network.

Prior to an offer, you will submit a brief video demonstrating your ability to tell a captivating story to young children, and you will participate in a full-day on-campus evaluation working directly with K-2 learners. Low energy with students will disqualify you, regardless of credential strength. This is intentional. Apply today.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Creating and facilitating small-group K-2 reading sessions rooted in structured-literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or similar), informed by live student performance data
  • Running daily motivation activities designed to ensure 100% of students reach their weekly adaptive-app targets, leveraging Alpha's motivational systems (campus currency, ranking boards, age-appropriate gamification)
  • Conducting and evaluating running records, fluency assessments, and decoding measures to monitor progress and refine subsequent instruction
  • Analyzing AI-generated student data from Alpha's adaptive platforms to individualize instruction dynamically, not only during planning time
  • Serving as the engaging, high-energy adult your K-2 students are excited to see every day

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Implementing a commercial reading curriculum, scripted lesson plan, or district timeline; you will independently design lessons based on student data
  • Delivering whole-group lectures; all instruction occurs in targeted small groups while academic subjects are completed through adaptive applications
  • Serving as a reading coach, consultant to teachers, or district-level specialist; you will be in the classroom with students daily
  • Managing a traditional classroom schedule — subject-specific lectures, homework correction, test preparation; your schedule consists of workshops, motivation sessions, and data-informed small-group instruction
  • Assigning grades or completing report cards; student progress is tracked via app analytics and your assessment records

Reading Interventionist Key Responsibilities

Provide structured-literacy instruction that produces measurable acceleration in K-2 reading performance across phonics, fluency, and decoding domains.

Basic Requirements

  • Structured-literacy credential (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or comparable) OR a Master's degree in reading instruction
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline, plus a minimum of 2 years of full-time K-2 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical environment, utilizing systematic phonics or structured literacy
  • Proven capacity to independently design reading lessons and clearly explain instructional content and methodology, without dependence on a published curriculum
  • Availability to work full-time in person at one Alpha campus: Phoenix, AZ; Oklahoma City or Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, Fort Worth, Houston (South Houston or The Woodlands), or Plano, TX; Park City (Salt Lake City), UT; or Dorado, Puerto Rico (relocation assistance available)
  • Willingness to work with the full spectrum of K-2 students (not exclusively struggling readers) and to incorporate AI and adaptive-learning platforms into daily practice
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. or Puerto Rico without requiring visa sponsorship
  • English/Spanish bilingual proficiency required for the Dorado, Puerto Rico campus

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Practical experience with AI-driven or adaptive reading tools (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for instructional planning or data interpretation
  • Documented reading gains (fluency increases in WCPM, accuracy improvements, decoding level progression) that you can specify with concrete figures
  • Experience in non-traditional or innovative educational settings (charter networks, micro-schools, Montessori, hybrid models)
  • Experience in performance, youth sports coaching, or other activities involving engaging K-2 audiences outside formal reading instruction
