Job Summary
An energetic and detail-oriented Staff Accountant specializing in upstream oil & gas is sought to join a dynamic organization in The Woodlands, TX. Responsibilities
- Support daily accounting activities including general ledger entries, revenue recognition, and production accounting processes.
- Assist with the entry, review, and reconciliation of production run tickets and monthly production data.
- Manage royalty payment documentation, including preparation and tracking of checks.
- Perform basic reconciliations, accrual support, data validation, and variance analysis to ensure data integrity.
- Handle the coding and processing of accounting transactions in accordance with upstream oil & gas standards.
- Maintain organized records and support external audits with detailed documentation.
- Collaborate with operational, land, and production teams to confirm the accuracy of field information and reporting.
- Utilize ERP and industry-specific oil & gas accounting software such as Enertia, OGsys, BOLO, or SAP.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and enhance data accuracy and efficiency.
- Provide administrative support by organizing field tickets and maintaining production files.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; relevant experience is also acceptable, including candidates nearing graduation or with late-career backgrounds.
- 1 to 4 years of accounting experience, preferably within the upstream oil & gas industry.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, including debits, credits, and general ledger basics.
- Familiarity with upstream oil & gas terminology such as production volumes, measurement standards, and revenue cycles, or a willingness to learn.
- Experience with ERP or industry-specific oil & gas accounting software.
- Excellent Excel skills, including lookup functions, pivot tables, formulas, and data management.
- Ability to work on-site in The Woodlands in a collaborative and team-oriented environment.
- Proactive, teachable, and able to handle routine and ad hoc tasks with initiative.
