You’ll lead complex repair projects, coordinate dry-docking overhauls, and ensure vessel compliance with regulatory and contract requirements.

A Shipholding company is seeking a Port Engineer to oversee the maintenance and overhauls (VRA & ROH) of U.S. Government-owned vessels. This is a remote-based role with periodic overseas travel for ship overhauls and repair activities. You’ll lead complex repair projects, coordinate dry-docking overhauls, and ensure vessel compliance with regulatory and contract requirements.
Responsibilities
- Manage and negotiate complex projects including shipyard dry dock overhauls and other repairs.
- Administer contracts related to ship construction, overhaul, and maintenance.
- Prepare contract work specifications and cost estimates for repair, conversion, or construction of ocean-going vessels.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and effective vessel management.
- 3 years experience as a Port Engineer, including management of at least two dry-docking availabilities valued at $3M each.
- 4 years of experience aboard government or commercial ocean-going ships (minimum 4,000 HP) as Chief Engineer or First Assistant Engineer.
- 5 years of combined education and experience, including:
- A degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Mechanical Engineering
- Experience in one or more of the following:
- Shipyard management
- Port Engineer on a government or commercial contract
- Active duty military service in a Port Engineer-like capacity
- U.S. Citizenship (required)
- Active Secret Security Clearance or ability to obtain one
- 5 years of experience in the U.S. commercial maritime industry (shipboard or shore-side)
