Position Overview
The Senior Production Engineer is responsible for optimizing manufacturing processes, improving production efficiency, and ensuring high-quality output. This role analyzes production data, identifies process bottlenecks, implements process improvements, and collaborates with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering. The Senior Production Engineer also supports new product introductions, ensures adherence to safety and quality standards, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and maintain operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Support new product introductions (NPI) by developing and validating manufacturing processes and workflows.
- Analyze existing manufacturing processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.
- Develop, implement, and optimize production processes to improve efficiency, quality, and throughput.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process documentation.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering teams to resolve production issues and ensure process compliance.
- Evaluate and recommend production equipment, tools, and technologies to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Support capacity planning, line balancing, and production scheduling to meet customer demands.
- Provide technical support during production ramp-ups, line changes, or troubleshooting activities.
- Design, develop, and fabricate production fixtures, jigs, and custom tools, including using 3D printing technology for prototypes and process aids to support manufacturing operations.
- Conduct training sessions for production staff on new processes, tools, or quality requirements.
- Coordinate with Procurement and Supply Chain teams to ensure material availability and process readiness.
- Mentor and guide production engineers, technicians, and operators to improve process understanding and performance.
- Drive cost reduction initiatives through process optimization, waste reduction, and efficiency improvements.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor production KPIs, including yield, cycle time, scrap rate, and equipment utilization.
- Participate in cross-functional projects to support operational excellence and strategic manufacturing initiatives.
- Analyze customer returns, warranty claims, and field failures to provide process improvement recommendations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in production engineering, manufacturing process improvement, or related roles, preferably within a thermal or related industry.
- Familiarity with thermal design concepts, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), ERP systems, process simulation tools and SAP.
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, PFMEA, control plans, and root cause analysis (RCA).
- Experience with testing procedures for thermal systems (e.g., pressure tests, thermal cycling).
- Ability to read and interpret P&ID and thermal schematics.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, workflow optimization, and production efficiency techniques.
- Experience implementing process control systems, statistical process control (SPC), or similar monitoring tools.
- Ability to train and mentor operators, technicians, or junior engineers in process and tooling use.
- Experience with continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime, increase productivity, and optimize resources.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and complex projects effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate across teams, vendors, and stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience with 3D printing for prototyping and manufacturing tool creation.
- Experience troubleshooting production issues and supporting equipment or tooling failures.
- Bilingual in English and Chinese is preferred
