Are you an experienced accounting leader with a strong background in real estate development? Our client, an established real estate and high-end construction firm, is seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to lead and shape the company’s financial operations. This is a rare opportunity to build the accounting function from the ground up and contribute directly to the strategic growth of the business. This role is onsite daily in Calabasas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Oversight: Manage the day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, general ledger, tax reporting, and cash flow management.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop and maintain budgets for ongoing and upcoming real estate projects, ensuring they align with business goals and cost efficiency.
- Reporting & Analysis: Prepare accurate financial statements, cash flow projections, and variance analyses, presenting them to senior leadership for data-driven decision-making.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local financial regulations, manage audit preparation, and maintain compliance with accounting standards.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a small but growing accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, development, and process improvement.
- Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with senior leadership on financial planning, risk management, and investment decisions, contributing to the company’s long-term strategy.
- Project Support: Provide in-depth financial analysis for real estate development and hospitality projects, including feasibility studies, pro forma analyses, and financial forecasting.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Experience: 5-10 years of experience in finance or accounting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. Construction industry experience preferred but not required.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial software (e.g., Yardi) and advanced Excel skills.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of real estate development financial processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and project-specific financial analysis.
- Leadership: Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and developing a team while driving cross-functional collaboration.
