Responsibilities
Referral Coordinator Duties
- Coordinate patient referrals to specialists and other healthcare providers
- Process and track referrals to ensure patients receive timely care
- Obtain and verify required referral information and documentation
- Communicate with insurance companies and specialty offices regarding referrals and authorizations
- Follow up on pending referrals and authorizations
- Communicate referral information and appointment details to patients
- Maintain accurate referral records and documentation
- Work closely with providers and clinical staff to ensure referrals are completed appropriately
- Assist with obtaining medical records, reports, and other information from outside providers
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain patient confidentiality
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
- Obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, and other patient information
- Assist providers with examinations and in-office procedures
- Perform clinical tasks within the scope of training and applicable regulations
- Prepare and maintain examination rooms and clinical supplies
- Assist with medication and procedure documentation
- Collect and process laboratory specimens as needed
- Administer injections and medications as directed and within scope
- Enter and update patient information in the electronic medical record
- Assist with patient follow-up and provider instructions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient clinical environment
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Medical Assistant certification preferred
- Previous experience in a primary care or medical office setting preferred
- Experience with referrals, insurance authorizations, or specialty scheduling is a plus
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical procedures
- Familiarity with electronic medical records
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
