Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Construction Services Civil Inspector to support power delivery construction projects across the state of Georgia. This role is responsible for inspecting and monitoring contractor work to ensure compliance with civil design specifications, construction standards, environmental regulations, and safety requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in civil construction practices. This included grading, foundations, concrete and asphalt work, geotechnical testing, erosion control, and surveying. They also have the ability to read and interpret technical drawings. This position requires routine statewide travel and periodic overnight stays.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Oversee civil construction work such as excavation, grading, foundations, concrete/asphalt placement, soil testing, and geotechnical activities
- Participate in and conduct daily Job Safety Briefings and hazard analyses
- Identify, report, and help resolve safety incidents promptly
- Verify accuracy of installed materials and ensure documentation is complete
- Maintain detailed daily logs and weekly project updates
- Audit and approve contractor timesheets, pay applications, and invoices
- Complete Quality Value Analysis (QVA) at project milestones
- Confirm all utility locates are called in per Georgia 811 procedures
- Ensure adherence to civil design drawings, specifications, and construction layouts
- Provide project status updates to supervisors and coordinators
- Track personnel and equipment time for payment accuracy
- Enforce Georgia Power–specific safety rules and contractor safety requirements
- Assist with verifying quantities, scheduling updates, and material deliveries
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED with 10 years of related field experience preferred
- OR a 2-year degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Civil Technology, Construction Management, or Forestry with 5 years of experience
- Strong knowledge of:
- Civil construction standards and best practices
- ACI and ASTM testing requirements
- USACE standards and NPDES GAR100002 permitting
- Construction surveying, cut/fill operations, and erosion control
- Reading and interpreting civil design and construction drawings
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interface professionally with engineers, project managers, contractors, and property owners
- Ability to travel extensively throughout Georgia, including routine overnight stays
