About This Position

The Parks and Recreation Department provides residents and visitors more than 41,000 acres of desert parks and mountain preserves. The parks feature 41 trailheads and more than 200 miles of trails, and 182 city parks. Additionally, there are 32 community and recreation centers, 33 afterschool sites, classes and sports programs for all ages, 29 pools, eight golf courses, and a variety of specialty and cultural venues and facilities.

The Parks and Recreation PAC Coordinator II plans, develops, implements, and evaluates recreation programs at park facilities, community centers for sports, art and culture, enrichment classes, school-based afterschool programs, and/or specialty programs.

This position plans, develops, implements and evaluates recreation programs and events specifically in an afterschool setting working with school administration and school districts.

After-school PAC Recreation Coordinator II duties include and are not limited to:

  • Supervising multiple off-site after-school programs in schools in the City of Phoenix boundaries.
  • Supervising full and part-time employees and volunteers.
  • Communicating and cultivating connections and partnerships with individuals and groups to support department activities.
  • Planning and coordinating special events.
  • Maintaining financial and activity records for submittal.
  • Administering department services include internet registration and reservations.

  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively, independently and on a team.
  • Ability to analyze the complex procedures and provide feedback for improvements.
  • Ability to work effectively independently or with teams of both technical and non-technical staff.

SALARY

Pay Range: $61,526.40 - $90,916.80 annually.

Hiring Range: $61,526.40 - $82,451.20 annually

  • Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
  • Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
  • Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
  • Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
  • Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
  • When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, leisure studies, or a degree related to an area of specialization.
  • One year of full-time, year-round professional or paraprofessional experience in recreation,
    • OR One year experience equivalent to the level of Recreation Coordinator I.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
  • Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must be fingerprinted and will have their fingerprints used to check the Criminal History Records of the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Any records returned will be reviewed to determine the candidate's suitability for the job.
  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Preferred Qualifications

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Four or more years of experience working part-time or full-time in an afterschool program.
  • Experience conducting outreach in schools, sponsors, other city departments and non profits.
  • Experience working special events.
  • Experience working in budget and procurement.
  • Experience in facility management.
  • Experience marketing and evaluating programs.
  • Experience using MS Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.), email, web-based registration (ACTIVE software system) and computer-generated flyer design.
  • Experience supervising staff and volunteers.
  • Experience working with the public and providing customer service.
