The Phoenix Convention Center and Venues is one of the premier convention facilities in the United States. It hosts a diverse range of conventions, trade shows, meetings, and entertainment events. The Phoenix Convention Center is seeking a high motivated candidate to join their team as a Sales Manager.

The Convention Center Sales Manager position is responsible for developing new business and maintaining relationships with current clients within an assigned sales region. This position works closely with Visit Phoenix (the Greater Phoenix Convention and Visitors Bureau) and downtown hotels. Duties include negotiating deal points, developing proposals, coordinating and conducting site inspections with prospective clients, and managing the contracting process for assigned sales accounts. The position is also responsible for representing the Phoenix Convention Center on sales missions and at industry tradeshows, as assigned.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Familiarity selling both convention center and theatrical venues.

SALARY

Pay Range: $69,492.80 - $93,121.60 annually.

Hiring Range: $69,492.80 - $88,691.20 annually.

  • Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
  • Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
  • Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
  • Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
  • Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
  • When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in hospitality sales and marketing, to include a convention or cultural center, hotel, or other large public use facility.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • Works more than 40 hours in a workweek without additional compensation to perform assigned job duties, including weekends, evenings, early morning hours and holidays as required.
  • Travel (in and possibly out-of-state) may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience in a sales role for a Convention Center, Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), or other public assembly venue.
  • Experience working for a city-owned & operated convention center.
  • Experience prospecting and outbound sales efforts in the local Arizona market.
  • Experience developing citywide convention business
  • Experience exhibiting at tradeshows for a destination.
  • Experience with contract negotiations.
  • Experience using event management software.
  • Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation.
