About This Position

The Parks and Recreation Department provides residents and visitors more than 41,000 acres of desert parks and mountain preserves. The parks feature 41 trailheads and more than 200 miles of trails, and 189 city parks. Additionally, there are 32 community and recreation centers, classes, and sports programs for all ages, 29 pools, eight golf courses, and a variety of specialty and cultural venues and facilities.

Customer Service Clerks assist the public and other customers by answering phones or working at a counter, answering questions, entering data and operating a computer, and performing clerical and/or cashiering duties. Customer Service Clerks must be able to follow verbal and written instructions, multi-task in a fast-paced environment and communicate tactfully with distraught or irate customers.

SALARY

Pay Range: $16.88 - $26.18 per hour.

Hiring Range: $16.88 - $20.51 per hour.

Pay Range Explanation

  • Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
  • Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
  • Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
  • Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
  • Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
  • When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One year of experience in meeting the public and performing varied office and clerical tasks,
  • supplemented by courses in bookkeeping and demonstrated typing skills.
  • Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Preferred Qualifications

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, etc.
  • Experience operating a cash register or similar cashiering program/POS system.
  • Experience in inventory control or supply purchasing.
  • Experience providing quality customer service to the public by telephone, email, or in person.
  • Experience operating multi-line telephone systems.
  • Experience providing admin support to staff.
  • Proficient in Spanish.
