An individual within the position of Direct Support Technician must be able to provide direct supervision to the individuals that attend the COPS program by ensuring the health and safety of program members.
- Access community resources, such as community centers, volunteer opportunities, parks, malls, museums, etc.
- Provide personal self-care, as well as meal preparation and assistance
- Completing progress/case notes and daily activity sheet.
- Serve as backup to our 24-hour residential facility when needed.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Requires a minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. Must obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within 90 days. Employees serving the Intellectual Disabilities (ID) population must pass ID Orientation Workbook training within thirty days of hire. Depending on the assignment, may be required to pass Medication Management Administration training within ninety days of hire.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
- Operate a city vehicle, such as a Mega Van, 15 passenger van, and minivan.
- Adhere to the City, CIBH, and COP program policies and procedures.
- Provide safe transportation to the individuals of the COP program.
- Assist passengers onboard and disembarking vehicles.
- Provide a program member with assistance out of a wheelchair to a table by lifting or using a Hoyer lift.
- To lift a person or item up to 50 lbs.
- Provide hand-over-hand assistance with meal preparation and guide a person from one location to another, using supportive equipment.
Must be in possession of a valid driver’s license. - Must be able to complete Medicaid Direct Support training, such as CPR/First Aid, TOVA training, and achieve a Medication Assistance certificate.
Prefer some experience working with persons who are living with intellectual disabilities. It is preferable that a person within this position will have paraprofessional training and/or certification, such as working as a nursing assistant or certified nursing aide.
Medical Marijuana:
In accordance with City policy, this position is deemed safety-sensitive. As such, applicants for this position are subject to pre-employment drug/alcohol testing after receiving a conditional offer of employment and may also be subject to random testing. This drug test includes testing for marijuana. Possession of a medical marijuana card will not excuse an applicant from the testing process; however, a test will not be considered positive for marijuana if a valid medical marijuana certification is presented unless the position requires a commercial driver’s license (CDL) or is a sworn law-enforcement officer/deputy.
