🧭 Position SummaryThe Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Construction Engineer to support the planning, coordination, and execution of healthcare infrastructure projects.
This role functions similarly to a Construction Manager, overseeing project activities from design through construction while ensuring compliance with VA standards, safety regulations, and project timelines.
The Construction Engineer will collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and VA stakeholders to deliver high-quality projects that support critical healthcare operations.
🎯 Key Responsibilities🏗️ Construction & Project Oversight- Oversee day-to-day construction activities across multiple projects
- Monitor contractor performance, schedules, and deliverables
- Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget
- Conduct site inspections to verify quality, safety, and compliance
- Coordinate between design teams, contractors, and VA stakeholders
- Review construction documents, drawings, and specifications
- Support project planning, phasing, and scheduling efforts
- Identify risks and proactively resolve project issues
- Ensure adherence to VA, federal, and local building codes and standards
- Enforce OSHA safety requirements and site safety protocols
- Review submittals, RFIs, and change orders
- Maintain accurate project documentation and reports
- Serve as a key point of contact between project teams and VA leadership
- Provide regular project status updates and reporting
- Participate in meetings, walkthroughs, and coordination sessions
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field
- 3–7 years of experience in construction management or engineering
- Experience managing commercial, healthcare, or government projects preferred
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and project delivery
- Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations (OSHA), and QA/QC processes
- Experience with federal or VA projects
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or construction/project management software
- PMP, CCM, or EIT/PE certification (preferred but not required)
- Combination of on-site construction oversight and office-based coordination
- May involve walking active job sites and interacting with contractors
- Contract position supporting VA infrastructure projects
- Full-time (hours may vary based on project needs)
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
- Ability to pass a background investigation (required for VA facilities)
