🚀 Make an Impact Where It MattersThe U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Engineer to lead complex healthcare construction, infrastructure, and facility improvement projects.
This is not a traditional desk role—you’ll be at the center of design, construction, and operational decision-making, ensuring critical healthcare environments are built, maintained, and improved to the highest standards.
🧭 What You’ll DoYou’ll serve as a technical leader across the full project lifecycle—from planning and design through construction and closeout—on large-scale, mission-critical healthcare projects.
🏗️ Construction & Project Execution- Oversee construction activities, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance
- Review shop drawings, submittals, and contractor work
- Resolve complex field issues and unforeseen site conditions
- Develop cost estimates, schedules, and project plans
- Review and guide architectural and engineering (A/E) designs
- Ensure alignment with federal standards, codes, and VA requirements
- Develop scopes of work and design criteria for external firms
- Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams
- Ensure compliance with:
- Life safety, fire codes, and building regulations
- OSHA and environmental standards
- Healthcare-specific requirements (infection control, patient safety)
- Support Environment of Care and emergency preparedness initiatives
- Work closely with contractors, architects, engineers, and VA leadership
- Provide expert engineering guidance to stakeholders
- Balance operational needs with engineering best practices
- Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related)
- 7 years of experience in construction, engineering, or facilities projects
- Strong experience in:
- Construction oversight and project delivery
- Design review and technical problem-solving
- Cost estimating and scheduling
- Ability to interpret drawings, specs, and complex technical documents
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience in healthcare, hospital systems, or federal projects
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or project management tools
- Experience managing or coordinating multidisciplinary teams
- Lead high-impact healthcare projects serving Veterans
- Work across design construction operations (rare combo)
- Stable federal environment with long-term career growth
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary experts across engineering and healthcare
