What are the responsibilities and job description for the Geographic Information System (GIS) Intern position at Chicago Metropolitan Agen?
CMAP is seeking 4 GIS interns to contribute to agency projects by supporting various initiatives and activities. The program runs from June to July, with interns working up to 29 hours per week during the summer, with potential extensions into the academic year at reduced hours. Interns create and analyze regional planning datasets, including census and zoning data, and assist in automating workflows using Python, R, or other programming languages. They also utilize GIS software to create static and interactive maps that align with project goals.

Compensation
$21 per hour.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program and entering junior or senior status by Fall 2026 or be enrolled in a graduate-level program.
Internships are hybrid, with in-office work at CMAP’s Old Post Office location in Chicago. Interns may work up to 29 hours per week. Start dates will occur between May and June, and internships will run for 12 weeks.
