The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is the comprehensive planning organization for northeastern Illinois’ 7 counties, 284 communities, and 8.6 million residents. Duties and responsibilities:
- Assist in drafting, editing, and quality assurance of key messages, including web and social content, newsletters, media monitoring, policy briefs, press releases, graphic design, and publicity materials.
- Assist with logistics and staffing for public engagement events, in CMAP’s offices and/or regional locations, including support for the Future Leaders in Planning summer immersion program.
- Attend and actively participate in team meetings, offering insights and suggestions for strategy, innovation, and improvements.
- Gain hands on experience with the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to real-life situations. Assist in the planning and execution of various agency projects. Grow as a communications and engagement professional.

Compensation
$21 per hour.
Minimum Requirements
- Applicants must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program and entering junior or senior status by Fall 2026 or be enrolled in a graduate-level program.
- Interest in communications, public engagement, urban/regional planning, or related field
Internships are hybrid, with in-office work at CMAP’s Old Post Office location in Chicago. Interns may work up to 29 hours per week. Start dates will occur between May and June, and internships will run for 12 weeks.
