Chesapeake Search Partners is exclusively engaged with our client in South Plainfield, NJ seeking a Controller who will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of assigned businesses, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and insightful financial analysis to support strategic and operational decision-making. This role acts as a key finance partner to business leaders, driving profitability, cost management, and performance optimization.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
- Prepare and review consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Manage revenue recognition for service contracts
- Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes for the business unit
- Analyze financial performance against budget, forecast, and prior periods; explain variances and trends
- Develop financial models to evaluate business initiatives, investments, and pricing strategies
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to business unit leadership
- Provide actionable insights to improve margins, cash flow, and return on investment
- Support contract review, capital expenditure analysis, and resource allocation decisions
- Monitor and control operating expenses, headcount, and capital spending
- Identify risks and opportunities; recommend corrective actions to meet financial targets
- Drive continuous improvement in financial processes and reporting efficiency
- Manage, mentor, and develop finance staff supporting the business unit
- Collaborate with Corporate Finance, Accounting, FP&A, and other cross-functional teams
- Promote a culture of financial discipline, transparency, and accountability
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- CPA strongly preferred
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3 years in a leadership role
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Excel skills
- Experience supporting project accounting, WIP reporting, and recurring service revenue
- Multi‑branch or private‑equity‑backed company experience
- Experience with acquisitions, integrations, or rapid growth environments
