What are the responsibilities and job description for the In-House Counsel position at Chesapeake Search Partners?
CSP is partnering with a privately held real estate lender seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized attorney to manage the legal aspects of their default loan pipeline. You will collaborate closely with operations, servicing, and executive teams to protect the company’s interests while helping streamline and improve internal processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage collections, defaults, and loss-mitigation matters
- Prepare and file foreclosure documents, affidavits, and court pleadings
- Manage relationships with outside counsel and help reduce external legal spend
- Respond to bankruptcy filings, motions, and court deadlines
- Draft and review loan-related legal documents, notices, and correspondence
- Assist with title issues, collateral review, and compliance matters
- Develop internal legal SOPs to strengthen our process and risk controls
- Attend court proceedings when necessary
- Provide legal support to the executive and operations teams as needed
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) and active member of the Maryland Bar
- 3 years of experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously
- Experience in real estate transactions, secured lending, foreclosure law, collections or creditor-rights litigation
- High level of professionalism, organization, and initiative
Preferred (Not Required)
- Experience with Maryland court e-filing
- Familiarity with private lending or mortgage operations
