About The Assistant Controller Role
A growing real estate organization in the Orlando area is seeking an Assistant Controller to oversee property-level accounting for its commercial real estate portfolio. This position plays a key role in managing accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting leadership with portfolio performance analysis and financial oversight.
Responsibilities for Assistant Controller
- Manage property accounting activities including month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
- Review and approve balance sheet and income statement reconciliations
- Prepare and oversee budgets, forecasts, cash flow reporting, and variance analysis
- Support asset-level reporting and provide analysis of property and portfolio performance
- Prepare and review CAM reconciliations and tenant recovery calculations
- Assist with lender reporting, debt compliance tracking, and loan-to-value (LTV) exposure analysis
- Support partnership accounting, investor reporting, and waterfall calculations as needed
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies
- Supervise and develop accounting staff while improving processes and reporting consistency
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5 years of commercial real estate or property accounting experience
- Experience working with Yardi or RealPage
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience within Accounting or Finance
- Proactive, hands-on accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment
- Experience preparing and reviewing CAM reconciliations
- Experience with asset-level financial reporting and portfolio analysis
- Knowledge of partnership accounting, investor reporting, and waterfall calculations
- Understanding of debt structures, loan covenants, and loan-to-value (LTV) exposure analysis
- Lead the accounting function for a commercial real estate portfolio
- Work closely with ownership and senior leadership on financial reporting and operational oversight
