What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2nd Shift Electrician position at Central Dauphin School District?
Summary
Responsible for overseeing all electrical work necessary to supply electric power for all buildings and equipment operations throughout the facilities within the district. This includes repairs, testing, replacement, and new installations.
Responsibilities
- Assist in designing and laying out electrical systems as required for new equipment and renovation projects.
- Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.
- Test continuity of circuits to assure electrical compatibility and safety of components.
- Minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring consistent with specifications and the local electrical code.
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender. Pull wiring through conduit.
- Purchase replacement units and parts when necessary with approval from Supervisor.
- Splice wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
- Connect power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and install grounding leads.
- Complete and maintain work orders through the district work order software to include labor and purchases.
- Snow removal as required.
- Perform other responsibilities within job classification as assigned by Supervisor.

Requirements
- Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
- Ability to use tools ranging from common hand and power tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills and wrenches to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
- Ability to examine and evaluate data. Presenting alternative actions in relation to the evaluation is frequently involved.
- Ability to understand relatively complex principals and techniques of electrical trades.
- Must be able to acquire knowledge of topics related to work classification.
- High School diploma or equivalent. Diploma graduate of appropriate trade school or technical college in electrical engineering with additional courses in electronics and computers is desirable.
- Five (5) years as a journeyman electrician. (Some experience may be waived by appropriate schooling along with demonstrated proficiency in completed courses.)
- Maintain current knowledge of National Electrical Codes.
