Description of the Shipping Clerk II:
- Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties.
- Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
- Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons.
- Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or select preassembled containers.
- Insert items into containers.
- Nails cover on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape.
- Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers.
- Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
- Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, reject damaged items, records shortages, and correspond with shipper to rectify damages and shortages. Routes items to departments.
- Loads and unloads small skids and crates.
- Examine outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
- Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
- Operates tier lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
- Performs light maintenance and cleaning of company owned trucks.
- Keeps the Shipping and Receiving area neat and clean at all times.
- Understands and follows safety & environmental regulations and identifies safety/environmental concerns.
- Adheres to the Quality System and participates in continuous improvement.
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Software.
Requirements (Experience & Education) of the Shipping Clerk II:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 1-year Shipping & Receiving experience.
- At least 1-year Hi-Lo experience.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
