Director of Accounts Receivable
Location: Naperville, IL | Hybird: Tues-Thurs in the office, Mon & Fri work from home

We are seeking a results-driven Director of Accounts Receivable to lead our independent customer receivables function. This strategic leader will oversee the end-to-end accounts receivable (AR) process, driving cash flow optimization, strengthening customer relationships, and ensuring operational excellence.
This is a high-impact role for a strong leader who can balance strategy and execution, build high-performing teams, and deliver measurable improvements in collections, credit management, and AR operations.
Responsibilities:
- Lead with impact: Manage and develop the AR team, fostering a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.
- Drive AR strategy: Create and execute strategies to optimize cash flow, reduce past-due balances, and strengthen working capital.
- Strengthen controls: Establish and enforce credit policies, perform risk assessments, and implement collection strategies to minimize bad debt.
- Collaborate across teams: Partner with Sales, Finance, Transportation, and Customer Service to improve invoicing accuracy, resolve disputes, and align on customer solutions.
- Leverage data & technology: Monitor AR metrics (DSO, aging, collections performance) and lead initiatives to enhance reporting, automation, and systems (ERP and AR tools).
- Support compliance & standards: Ensure AR processes adhere to accounting principles, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Build customer relationships: Engage with customers directly to ensure timely payments, resolve issues, and maintain strong business partnerships.
- Innovate & improve: Champion continuous improvement and technology-driven enhancements to streamline processes and support future growth.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- 8 years of progressive accounts receivable management experience, including 3 years in a leadership role.
- Expertise in AR best practices, credit policy, collections strategy, and customer credit management.
- Strong leadership experience with proven success in developing high-performing teams.
- Analytical and data-driven mindset with the ability to turn insights into strategy.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (Workday preferred) and AR automation tools.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while driving measurable results.
Salary : $150,000 - $160,000
