Under general supervision, the Senior Estimator performs advanced estimating functions as assigned by management. This role supports leadership by ensuring project cost estimates are accurate, defensible, and aligned with established estimating methodologies, project guidelines, and all applicable contractual, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
The Senior Estimator leads and coordinates estimating activities across projects of varying size and complexity. Responsibilities include planning, developing, reviewing, and presenting cost estimates while collaborating closely with project teams, management, and clients. The position may require directing other estimating professionals and supporting the development of estimating standards, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
• Lead the implementation and execution of estimating functions to support project, departmental, and organizational requirements
• Independently manage estimates for small or multiple projects
• Direct estimating staff on large or complex projects
• Support estimating leadership on extremely large projects by managing portions of project scope
• Coordinate estimate planning and development with project teams
• Lead development of total project cost estimates
• Prepare the Project Estimate Basis documentation
• Perform estimate risk analysis and recommend appropriate contingency levels
• Arrange and conduct estimate reviews at the department, discipline, and project level
• Participate in estimate presentations to senior management, corporate leadership, and client representatives
• Support estimate completion activities and turnover to project execution teams
• Develop and deliver estimating related training programs
• Perform complex estimating duties requiring advanced judgment and technical expertise
• Maintain compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations
• Actively participate in safety work groups
• Perform additional job related duties as assigned
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Minimum of 5 years of estimating or related experience
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
• Typical experience range is 5 to 8 years
Required Skills and Competencies
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and general PC applications
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Experience using Sage Timberline and RSMeans estimating software
• DOE L or Q clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain one
• Ability to work independently and lead estimating efforts
• Ability to coordinate and direct estimating personnel as project scope requires
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience estimating DOE or DOD projects
• Experience supporting deactivation, demolition, and remediation projects
• AACE or similar professional estimating certification
