Summary: As a Senior Radiation Protection Technician 4 (RCT 4), you will be the primary point of contact for planning, coordination of resources, and ensuring resolution of conflicting demands in dynamic and challenging conditions. You will serve as an expert in radiological controls, particularly for high-hazard radiological work, and play a crucial role in developing Radiological Work Control Packages (RWCPs). This position requires strong tactical decision-making skills and the ability to fulfill customer radiation protection requests while ensuring compliance with established priorities.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Radiological Work Control:

    • Develop and review work packages, including time, material, and labor estimates.
    • Serve as the authorized subject matter expert for RWCPs, ensuring correct application of radiological controls.
    • Coordinate work area resources to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  2. Customer Interaction and Problem Resolution:

    • Fulfill customer radiation protection requests, adhering to RP-1 priorities.
    • Work effectively with customers and supervision to resolve problems, elevating issues as necessary.
  3. Technical Leadership:

    • Provide technical leadership and review, potentially including technical supervision responsibilities.
    • Anticipate problems and handle unforeseen issues, demonstrating expertise in safety and compliance.
  4. Contribution to Project Success:

    • Contribute substantially to project or group accomplishments through independent effort.
    • Develop solutions to complex problems, applying ingenuity, creativity, and independence.
  5. Physical Demands and Safety Compliance:

    • Perform work with moderate physical demands, including lifting and carrying radiation protection instruments.
    • Adhere to safety protocols, ensuring compliance with 10CFR835 and potential fines under the Price-Anderson Amendments Act.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma and four to six years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Additional training, certification, and/or education may be expected, including associate’s degrees and graduation from technical institutions.
  • Extensive experience in supporting radiological activities and facilities.
  • Operational health physics expertise.
  • Considerable knowledge and skills beyond those expected at Level 3.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply extensive knowledge to complete specialized tasks.
  • Ability to work without appreciable direction, exercising considerable latitude in determining technical objectives.
