Be the Link Between the Customer and the Shop
The Service Writer plays a key role in delivering a high-quality customer experience at Boater’s World Marine Centers. This position is responsible for building strong relationships with customers, accurately identifying service needs, and ensuring work is communicated and completed efficiently.
You’ll act as the bridge between the customer and the service team — helping translate issues, manage repair orders, and keep customers informed every step of the way.

What You’ll Be Doing
Customer Experience
- Greet and assist customers in a professional, friendly manner
- Build strong relationships by delivering a customer-first experience
- Assist customers across departments when needed (sales, service, and parts)
- Maintain a clean, organized, and customer-ready workspace
- Identify and communicate customer service opportunities to management
Service Writing & Repair Orders
- Listen to customer concerns and accurately identify service needs
- Clarify issues by asking the right questions and reviewing maintenance history
- Conduct basic inspections to support service recommendations
- Prepare and write repair orders (ROs) in Lightspeed with clear, accurate details
- Ensure all repair orders comply with company policies and state regulations
- Obtain customer approvals for all recommended work
Estimates & Communication
- Develop accurate estimates for parts, labor, and additional services
- Keep customers informed on repair status, timelines, and approvals
- Communicate clearly with technicians to ensure proper execution of work
- Facilitate sublet work when required
Revenue & Service Opportunities
- Perform thorough walkarounds of incoming units to identify additional service needs
- Recommend current and future maintenance to customers
- Help increase revenue by identifying and presenting additional work opportunities
Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience in a Service Writer / Service Advisor role
- Strong customer service and communication skills with the ability to build trust
- Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple repair orders
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume service environment
- Basic understanding of mechanical or marine systems preferred
- Experience using dealership systems (Lightspeed or similar) is a plus
- Ability to upsell service work and identify additional opportunities
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle customer concerns professionally
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work across departments
- Reliable, punctual, and able to manage responsibilities independently
Schedule
- 5 days per week, 40 hours per week
- Sundays always off one weekday off
- Saturdays required
- Consistent, full-time schedule with steady workflow
Compensation
- Competitive base pay with performance-based commission tied to repair orders and service sales
